Iced Cube Coffee {DIY Wednesday}

I saw this idea somewhere and wanted to try it and thought I would share it with you. It’s super easy, and pretty tasty for a hot summer afternoon [and yes, we are still having those, but it’s almost September.] Not quite as strong as I might like 😉 but still a yummy treat.

You need some cold strong coffee, an ice cube tray, milk of choice, and something to sweeten.

Image

Just freeze the coffee into ice cubes [mine took about 2 hours to harden fully] then pop them out and store them in the freezer. When you’re ready for some coffee, add the cubes to any kind of milk and sweeten as desired.

I am currently loving this vanilla flavored agave. It’s really delicious.

Since I’m supposed to be dairy free right now I figured it would be good to start thinking up ways to make my own coffee drinks at home. I had run out of almond milk when I made this so I used cows milk, but I really want to try it with almond milk soon, and maybe some other flavor combinations. 🙂

Do you have any coffee drinks you like to make at home?

Laughlin AFB :: Del Rio, TX

As of last night I am finally home from my trip. I had a wonderful time, but at the moment, I am very grateful for my own bed and being barefoot on carpet all day long. 😉

For part of the trip, my family and I were at Laughlin Air Force base for my oldest brothers graduation from UPT [undergraduate pilot training] on August 17, 2012. He will now fly B-52’s out of Louisiana and achieve his life-long dream of being an Air Force pilot. I am so very proud of him.

This is the flight line… probably not something you civilians will see every day. 😉

Well done, Second Lt. Mike Butler. Keep ’em flying. I love you.

Life really is better that way.

“A mushroom walks into a bar, bartender says ‘I’m sorry but we dont serve your kind here.’ The mushroom says ‘Why not, I’m a fungi?'”

Hahah…. That’s one of my most favorite jokes. 😉

Remember to laugh today.

In case you were wondering…

This blog post is going to be a little more on the personal side than most of mine. There have been a whole lot of changes in my life the last month or so and I’m going to fill you in on them, just in case any of you were wondering… which you probably werent. Or desperately wanted to know…  which you probably didnt. 😉
I have been chronically ill for just about four years now. Chronic fatigue, nausea, unexplained weight loss, chronic migraines, ect. To be honest with you, I cant even remember what “well” or “healthy” feels like. It’s never been bad enough to be serious, just enough to be painful and annoying. Doctors havent been any help at all so mostly I just internalized any pain and lived life anyway. Well it turns out that you can only tough things out for so long before your body decides something needs to be done.
So I did something. I’m going to a new doctor, got some answers as to what is really going on, and now I am radically changing my life. Radically as in, quitting my day job because my body doesnt have the energy to get up at 4:30am, work 8 hours on my feet and keep going until night. Also severe diet changes, like being gluten free, dairy free, and sugar free for at least six months to a year while my body learns how to process food again. Taking supplements and vitamins. Sleeping all night and then telling myself that it is still okay to take naps during the day.
It’s really all very boring but that’s what my body needs right now.
So I am going to use this time to throw myself headlong into life. Get to all of those little detail tasks that never seem to be accomplished for lack of time. Study everything interesting. Develop my skills as a photographer and build my business. Book tons of photoshoots and share my passion with others. Travel and see and places. Invest in people. Better organize my life.
It seems a bit idillic right now, but that’s what God told me to do and so that’s my big plan for this fall. I am so excited to see how it plays out.
Speaking of, tomorrow we are headed down to Texas for my oldest brothers graduation from Air Force pilot school and then I’m spending a few days in Dallas with one friend and then going off to see another friend. Which means blogging may become a little erratic.
Oh, and so far, I think I like living like this. 😉
Cant wait to see what this fall ends up being.
Stay beautiful,

One of my lovely co-workers and one of my favorite customers got together and gave me these flowers last Friday for my last week of work at the coffeeshop. They are perfect. Look at the pictures and color and textures! And there is even a roll of film on the flowers! Does it get any better than that? The answer is no.
These really do make me ridiculously happy.

Quote Mug {DIY Wednesday}

Oh my dear. It is hot outside. As in, 55 thousand degrees hot.

Okay, maybe it’s more like 100, but it’s still hot.

And you might be wondering why in the world I am talking about coffee mugs at a time like this, but the fact of the matter remains that I never lose my love of hot tea and coffee. Regardless of the weather, I like hot drinks in the morning and at night.

I also have a bad case of fall fever… it’s like spring fever only it’s worse because you cant wear your hoodies yet.

But [hopefully] it will be fall soon and wont you want a smashing personalized mug to drink your tea out of, or to give as an awesome and super easy gift?

The answer is yes, you will. 😉

Image

You’ll need a ceramic mug and a sharpie and an oven. That’s all. Except maybe some artistic ability… I dont have any but somedays I like to pretend. Today I am pretending.

I found these mugs at Target in the dollar section. They’re blue, adorable, and cheap, what’s not to love? Oh! And they stack too!

[I also love how retro they look]

Image

Decorate as desired and bake them in the oven for 30 minutes at 350′

By the way, you will need to handwash them.

I decided to write a quote on mine.

Image

Image

5 points if you know what quote this is and who said it. 😉

Image

That’s it really. I kept mine simple but I would like to get some more and do line designs or filigree on them.

What would YOU like to put on a mug for sipping something lovely?
